Strong heart by Charlie Sheldon takes the reader to a breathtaking sea of adventure deep in the wilderness of the Olympic Peninsula. It begins with an unexpected turn of events when a trip planned for three that is Tom, and his two friends William and Myra turns out to be a trip of four! Well, to their surprise an unfamiliar granddaughter shows up out of the blue with Tom’s x-wife Ruth, leaving them with no option other than to take her with them.
The story begins to unfold when they set off to go to visit the grave of Tom’s father the following day after a very rainy night. Clearly Sarah does not like the place, she compares the place to juvenile and at some point, she feels like the place is the end of the world because all she sees is tall trees, rain and dripping forest. However, Tom sees Sarah as nothing but trouble. Well, will Sarah be able to adjust to the place? Or will she be nothing but trouble?
The book takes a twisted turn when Sarah vanishes and reappears back with a strange connection to the land which she really despised at first. Well, initially Tom was the one who seemed to know everything about the history of the land, but after Sarah reappeared it made it more transparent that he had a lot more to discover.
The secrets and mysteries makes the story-line to be more captivating and engaging to the reader. The fact that Sarah was not a believer of that land, and hated the place from the start, being the one who had to have the real actual fantasy experience of the land creates an engaging story-line, that makes the reader to keep turning the page out of curiosity how things would turn out to be.
The author Charlie Sheldon masterfully illustrates a great family scene which is very familiar to some readers, hence creating a certain deep connection of the book and the reader. The theme of the book which is based on history and time travel is well blended making those readers who enjoy reading such books to appreciate the authors skills and creativity.
Even though the entire book major’s mostly on Sarah’s recounting journey, the author has managed to build the characters very well giving it a fascinating blend of both science and native mysticism. The book has widely covered different topics from the native land, Sarah’s vision, modern genetics to an archaeology of how humans came to live in America, which are linked together throughout the book hence creating an interesting cohesive plot.
Sarah is very intriguing, she is a young slim teenage girl who goes through internal struggles and tries all she can to overcome them even though no one believes in her. The author brings Sarah’s character to life throughout the book, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.
In conclusion, what I didn’t like in the book is the graphic descriptions of the animal attacks, other than that everything about the book was well researched and creatively written by the author. I would recommend this book to anyone to read it especially those who love reading fiction and history books. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because of its mysterious unique story-line, and I did not find myself predicting what next, which made me enjoy reading the book.
