Health Tips,Myths, and Tricks authored by Dr. Morton Tavel, a physician specialist in internal and cardiovasciolar diseases. He also wrote the book "Snake Oil is Alive and Well. The Clash between Myths and Reality. Reflections of a Physician." Wherein he specified some misleading information that has been imposed in the public. As a motivation, from his previous book, Health tips,Myths and Tricks is born. This book was data and experimental based about what most of us believe about health and the possible mistaken beliefs. Long-term and harmful effects like cardiovascular diseases, weight-loss, stroke, diabetes were some of the scope of the book.
The book addresses some issues that the public were unaware of doing. There were misconceptions that the author was able to give clarifications. It also tackled the reasons why we should minimize or even avoid the things that we normally do or take. One example was spending money for an alkaline water. Most of us chose to spend money to buy such kind of water. But according to the tests done on the treated water, there was no signifcance difference between a pure clean tap water versus alkaline water. Studies on stretching, benefits of food supplementals, proper sleep, smoking and alot more were also part of the book.
My interest in weight-loss was the main reason why I chose this book. And health in totality as well. To my surprised this book offers a lot more than what I expected. From proper food selection, frequent exercise and proper sleep were truly an eye opening for me. On the first chapter of the book it discussed the effective aids and the useless aids to losing weight. There were chapters that discussed proper dieting, what food to take and their benefits in our body. Those topics and tips from the author were truly helpful for someone like me who's trying to lose weight. But there were chapters that showed too much numbers and lack further explanation. There were also words that were unexplained or defined. One example was the word chiropractic on Chapter 30. It was not defined what kind of remedy or treatment that was.
The book was very informative. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. One will learn a lot from this book espacially those who are health and weight conscious. Although the book was precise and reliable, on my opinion there were chapters that contained too much numbers that at times made me feel of bored or and choose another chapter.
I conclude that the author achieved his objective to provide helpful and trustworthy information to the public. Through this book he was able to inform the public regarding not just about health but also he was able to correct misleading information being imposed in the public.
