Review of Roan

[Following is a volunteer review of "Roan" by E. R. Barr.]
Roan by E. R. Barr is one book that sticks with a person after reading because it is not a typical growing-up story. The book is a story about Conor Archer, a young guy who loses his mom in a strange way. He feels really sad, but then things get even weirder when stranger things happen to him. Before his mom dies, she reveals strange and unknown things to him, including an aunt he didn’t even know he had. He then goes to Tinker's Grove. Here, he learns a whole lot more about himself and the supernatural world.
I like that the author does not allow the main character, Conor, to go through his harrowing experiences alone. He meets other friends and family, and they figure things out together. As Conor deals with his newfound abilities and revelations, he also makes and builds new connections with others. Along the way, Conor realizes many things about his past and how they hold answers and solutions to his dilemmas. He also steps up to embrace the truths and decisions concerning him and his family’s past. When it comes to the ending of the book, I have a lot to say, but I will just give a single opinion summary to avoid spoilers. It was not even a bit predictable and aligned perfectly with the entire build-up of the book’s storyline.
The only thing I dislike about this book are the characters’ special powers, which are fascinating but sadly underexplored. I recommend this book to lovers of mystery and fantasy. The book is free from grammatical errors. It was exceptionally edited, and I think a lot of time and effort was put into achieving this. It was a thing of joy to read a book for hours without having to go back to a sentence because of grammatical errors or a lack of understanding.
After having a great time reading and analyzing this book and detailing all my good points and one single bad point about it, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
