Rating: 3 out of 4 stars
I gave this book the rating of 3 out of 4 stars because of its readability as well as the shortness of the chapters. The constant switching of each characters story between chapters serves and achieves in capturing the reader from start to finish. The use of a contemporary themes such as Facebook, iPad and Adele will strike a cord with younger readers too.
Summary:
I recently read my trip to Adele book which is a very interesting and captivating book. The book really excels in touching on current social issues which originate from old traditions and cultures; and hoe these issues still plague people from around the world today.
Subject: current issues with a strong focus on contemporary times.
Type of book: fiction
Author: R.I. Alyaseer and A.I Alyaseer
Title: My Trip to Adele
Review:
This book is set in todays modern times and does a brilliant job of covering current social issues experienced by different individuals in various parts of the world. The issues range from child prostitution, women’s rights , religion, hardships of marriage and social pressures.
The focus of the book is around the biggest pop star Adele who plays the role of the narrator and is the centre piece that ties all the separate stories told in this book. Her songs are the backdrop to each story as it unfolds through the pages.
Most will find this book refreshing and captivating as I have, it cleverly interweaves unrelated characters stories into a book that individuals from a wide audience can relate to in some way or another. It unpacks and gives an opinion on societal pressures and issues through tasteful story telling. A strong focus is placed on character development which is juxtaposed to the progress of the story.
Dislikes:
The beginning of the book can throw most unseasoned readers off as it uses an unorthodox story telling method which requires a degree of immersion from the reader in order to stay committed and see the entire book through.
Likes:
I enjoyed how each set of characters covered a focused societal issues and how as the story progressed so did the character development and readers perspective on each issue also grows and at times changes or strengthens. I also enjoyed how each character was responsible for giving different view points on the issue they were responsible for unpacking.
Types of people who will like the book:
Millennials will easily find this boom to resonate well with them as issues covered in this book have a direct impact on them and the time they live in. Topics covered in this book are at the forefront of societies conversations and day to day struggles, such as women’s rights, human trafficking, child prostitution, religion, divorce and marriage to name a few.
