CAN I BE FRANK? by Rob Wyatt is a book that makes you appreciate the fact that you do not need to have all the answers to life's questions. This book explores the themes of power, exploitation, language barrier, betrayal, just to name a few. Father Frank, a priest with a distinct sense of humor, travels to Florida ill prepared for the challenges that are going to face him in his vocation.Gene Charmois; a man with an annoying sense of self importance and an overly inflated ego.

The book leaves the reader in suspense as one tries to find out whether Frank will choose his fleshly desires over his calling. This is a book that reflects our society whereby the high and mighty get away with literally anything as the poor get overworked and underpaid. The story arouses a mixture of feelings as one relates with different characters on different levels. The writer embraces diversity when tries to merge the English culture, the American culture and the Mexican culture. I learned a few words in Spanish!

The writer leaves no detail to chance as he goes through the trouble of inserting relevant Bible verses in the beginning of each chapter. I, however, did not like the fact that father Frank seemed to seek refuge in drinking alcohol anytime he was confronted by a problem. While reading this book, i found myself thinking about how, more often than not, i take my relatives and friends for granted. Those who in their own weird way, have been there to support and cheer me on through life.

I particularly developed a soft spot for the following characters; Martha who is a tough nut to crack, the jolly Ginny, the ever happy Karl, Frank's supportive mother and most of all the good God. You will fall in love with these characters even in their weaknesses especially by the way they find ways to stick around the parish even when the going gets tough. This book makes you ponder over your spiritual state. It makes you appreciate the support you get from those around.

Anyone would enjoy reading this book; whether a catholic, protestant or non christian. It is written in standard English so you have to keep checking your dictionary. This book will lighten your mood as well as keep you entertained. Who knows, you might even be convicted! However, the book requires a bit of editing due to grammatical and typographical errors. This is the main reason i rated the book 3 out of four stars. I have also added it in my list of favorite books.

Yeah, i loved it because of it's tone. It is not the type of book that one reads wearing a frown on the face.
You should try it.

Yeah, being a minister is not easy especially when you have to explain the Bible in a lay man's language. So that people begin to enjoy its stories and not look at it as an official book that is to be read on the seventh day alone.

I think I need to read this book for that reason...I'm not at all comfortable with not having all the answers. Thank you for the lovely review.
