Take your uniqueness and turn it into your strength! This book, Will You Talk to Me? by Margie Carstens, helps parents and educators illustrate the importance of uniqueness and discovering your personality traits. This 5 out of 5-star well, well-edited secret gem is an excellent portrayal of a child’s inquisitive mind and an essential lesson in personality. At an early age, our children are learning the vital skills of socializing and how to be themselves. We all were created the way we are for a purpose.
Children and adults alike will know there may be challenges with self-discovery and confidence, but when you stand tall and strong, you can overcome the voices of others trying to tear you down. In the beginning, the girl is looking at the large, intimidating ocean with different creatures that are different in shape and size, friendly and not so friendly, and a life that seems to be in perfect harmony. Not realizing the sea creatures could be thinking the same about her and the other creatures on land. Will You Talk to Me?[\i] provides a visual by explaining what one feels is a weakness is a strength and helps them stand out from the rest of the crowd. The hummingbird helped the girl understand that she was perfectly and wonderfully made, exactly how she was planned to be. Remind yourself often that others will say things that will make you sad when they struggle with confidence internally and are jealous that you have learned to stand tall and be proud of who you are.
Great and small creatures symbolize individuality and self-discovery, depicted through the beautiful illustrations on every page. Reading this to a younger child would be simple, as the illustrations will help them visualize the theme of individualism through the hummingbird and others. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to see how Margie Carstens uses her creativity to portray other essential life lessons for future generations.
