The title of the book is Health Tips, Myths and Tricks. It was written by Morton E Tavel, MD. He pursued his medical degree from university of Indiana. He is a physical specialist in internal Medican and cardiovascular diseases. Besides, Tavel taught at Indiana University school of Medicine. He has written 125 research publications, book review and also a medical text book. He is the author of the Snake is Alive and Well.
It is a non-fiction book that aims at clearing various myths that cut across health, nutrition and fitness. The book spans across various issues such as weight loss and various options available in achieving the same. It also tackles on beverages and their effect on general health. Moreover, it touches on water; it explains the one suitable for consumption. It further explains about painkillers, heartburns, allergies and how to deal with common cold. Additionally, the book gives a brief explanation about both organic and genetically modified foods. The book also clears the air about the misleading adverts that could be made by pharmaceutical firms motivated by greed for money.
Furthermore, according to doctor Tavel, obesity is a lifestyle disease and holds strongly that it can be checked by factoring what one eats. He further explains how exercise can help curb this instead of opting for weight losing supplements. Besides, he puts it clear how one can determine if he or she is of the right weight. This can be achieved by determining the body mass index; this combines both height and weight to come up with this. Tavel explains scientifically how one can lose weight through reducing caloric intake. Dieting surpasses all the techniques available and very effective in achieving the same. According to him sleep plays a crucial role in determining ones weight. This is also scientifically explained.
This book is quite informative. It not only cut across the various myths that exists regarding health and fitness but also explains scientifically the healthy options one can undertake. It is professionally edited and really emphasizes on healthy lifestyles that we tend to overlook. From my point of view, one does not have to necessarily rely on medicine to remain healthy and fit. One should look into what he or she takes.
Furthermore, we are what we eat and our health greatly depends on this. The book however leaves out the steps that should be taken against those pharmaceutical firms that convey misleading options that one can undertake to be healthy and fit. According to my assessment, the book deserves a 3 out of 4 since it provides great and deep insights to the readers on the topics it addresses.
