My Trip to Adele is a book that narrates three stories and they all have a common character, all of the characters in the three stories are fans of Adele.The book is written in the first person.
The first story occurs in Italy where Elias resides and works with his friend Veronica.Elias remembers Morroco a place known as Marrakesh where he met Malika a thirteen year old call girl.He had left Malika because he could not love a thirteen year old girl.While in Italy a shawafa told him to go back and look for Malika.While in Marrakesh Elias and Malika had met a shawafa who had told them they would love each other but would seperate at some point.He travels to Morroco and starts finding out Malika's whereabouts.A fortuneteller tells him that Kanza,Malika's mother had cast a spell on him so that he could love her not her daughter but the spell managed to seperate them and Elias did not fall in love with Kanza.Elias spends days looking for answers to the whereabouts of Malika aand finds out through her friends Aziz the snake charmer that Malika whispered her secrets to his snakes because they did not have ears so her secrets were safe,Camillia the henna girl who Malika told about Elias and Camillia thought Elias was a delusion Malika had come up with and Saber whom Malika had left the wooden box to with instructiona that if Elias ever came back he should give Elias.Elias went to his hotel to read the contents in the box and found out that Malika had left and was to attend the Adele concert,he heads to the concert in Verona hoping to find the same old Malika but when he sees he he realizes she is a changed girl who had grown up to learn English and Italian too.He walked away because he found a different new Malika,the old one was gone.The second story occurs in Las Vegas in USA.Marian and Yaser a married couple visit Dr.Brown to help them with their marriage problem.Dr.Brown asks Yaser and Mariam to remember the best memory that has come up from their marriage and the only memory Yaser remembers is the day he proposed to Mariam and an Adele song was singing so he buys tickets for the upcoming Adele concert so that he and Mariam could attend and revive memories of their marriage.Unfortunately Mariam does not concider that moment as their best memory and she decudes to not accompany Yaser to the concert.Yaser decides to visit his friend whom he talked to when things with Mariam were not good and he realises she is not the girl with the soothing sound he seeked for in her but someone who leaved in the underworld beneath the sewage drains and decides he would rather stay with Mariam than seperate from her and her philosophies about life with the same monotony of doing things.The third story is in Jordan where Nadia a divorced single mum resides.Nadia divorced firm her abusive husband while she was pregnant with her son she found out he was cheating on her.She has a son Waleed,whom she has raised for eight years alone.Her husband has restriction orders that withhold Nadia from trabelking with Waleed wihtout his pernission.Nadia decides to spend more time with Waleed and asks for a leave from work so that she could go on vaccation with her son to the Adele concert because he loved Adele.Her ex husband refuses to let Nadia travel with Waleed because she had reported him to the authorities against tradition for Waleed being shot during his wedding ceremony.Nadia has to for go the trip because she cannot bring herself to travel without Waleed.All characters plan to attend the concert but only Elias and Malika manage to attend.
This book talks about love and what love entails.The book talks about two broken marriages and one long lost love.One married couple fights to revive beautiful memories so that they can resolve their marriage problems ,the other is a divorced marriage due to wife batttery while in the long lost love both characters hope to find each other after eight years of seperation during an Adele concert and they manage to meet.
The characters are well depicted.Elias and Malika are ambitious individuals.Yaser and Mariam are hardworking doctors despite their marriage problems and their different personalities,Yaser is a calm reserved person while Mariam is a strict woman.Nadia is a go getter,she does what makes her feel comfortable,she does not believe in tradition and in women discrimination.
I would rate the book 3 out of 4.The book is a captivating book and has real life experiences but the story of Italy,Morroco seems fictional to me because despite the big crowd at Adele's concert two people who have not met for eight years meet.
