Lincoln Cole's Raven's Peak is a crime, thriller, mystery and horror story. It is the first installment of the World on Fire series. This story starts off with Haatim meeting a stranger at a library who tells him that he himself is being followed. The stranger pays Haatim money to find enough evidence of the woman who is following him so that they can report to the police. That woman turns out to be Abigail, a hunter working for a secret religious organization to protect humans from demons. Due to unlikely circumstances, Haatim finds himself following Abigail on her quest to find out about the mystery lurking about in a town called Raven’s Peak. As the story progresses, Abigail starts to realise that whatever is happening in that town is much bigger and much more dangerous than she had ever imagined.
Raven’s Peak is a multi genre, action packed story which keeps the reader on edge throughout the course of its never ending apocalypse. It is a story about the power and importance of faith and how it can help a person to win his or her battles. This book introduces the reader to a whole new world where demons exist and how dangerous their impact can be on a person. The plot of this story is unique in its own way with elements of undefined horror and compelling mystery.
This book was edited carefully and it was hard for me to find any errors. The writing is absolutely phenomenal. Lincoln Cole did a geat job at setting the tone and pace of the story. I could easily imagine the world and the atmosphere the author has created. It was clear that Lincoln Cole had worked incredibly hard on this book. The characters are well developed and easy to relate to.
My favourite part about this book was the way the story unravelled. Many books, at times, dump all of the information in the first couple of chapters which make it a little hard for readers to understand the basic idea of the story. Lincoln Cole does an excellent job at releasing new formation bit by bit. Not only does that make it easier to catch up but it also keeps the reader curious. The plot itself is carefully planned out. Everything is connected and makes sense. It is also exceptionally imaginative which helps the reader to easily see the world the author has created. This story is intriguing from page one and gets even better as it moves forward. The dialogue is realistic and the back and forth between Abigail and Haatim sets off the story to a nice tone. Another thing that I relish about this book was Abigail. Her strong character and her will to never give up was not only interesting to read about, but was inspirational as well. It was hard for me to find any negative points in this story, I absolutely loved it.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I think it has the right balance of horror and mystery making his book impossible to put down. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys books of these genres.
