[Following is a volunteer review of "Blood Vengeance" by Charles Alexander.]
Charles Alexander’s "Blood Vengeance" is a white-knuckle adventure in London, on the uncompromising, harsh, and unforgiving side of the city. It's the second part of the Annie Steele series, and this book yet again puts our heroine, the motorcycle cop, bang in the middle of a complex and intricate maze of vengeance, mobsters, and global threats.
We go in straight from the start: Annie's search for her disappeared boyfriend becomes stealthy serious when she discovers that England is at threat once a new plot is unearthed. Getting rid of them will be the hardest task, as their true natures are revealed: a reckless enforcer of the law and a brilliant man who has gone mental.
While trying to get involved in the search for her boyfriend, who is suddenly missing, she is getting deeper into the terror and might bid farewell to her mortality too. Alexander perfectly interweaves the mob violence, the scheming of a ruthless billionaire with an evil plan, and the backdrop of London in the past, provoking a sense of thrill. The motorcycle chases are heart-stoppingly detailed, and you are right behind Annie as she interacts with the bustling streets of London. Annie's fights are violent and realistic, and they leave you in pain as you watch her brutality.
It was a really good book, and I would give it 5 out of 5 stars. London isn't only a background; it is also a person in itself. A vivid portrayal of the grimy thoroughfares and the splendidly guarded houses with their ominous concealed spaces is offered by Alexander. The pace often speeds up and slows down one after the other, which makes it hard to follow. The series of enemies that Annie goes through may be difficult to read for some readers. In the end, I will say that the editing was one of the advantages of this novel because there were no mistakes. There will be no dislikes from the book.
