Upon reading the title, I developed interest in reading more of the content of the book. “That place of knowledge,” is an eye catching title which makes one eager to know what and where that place is. This was exhaustively documented and the route to that place also clearly written about.
This novel opens with Philip, an autistic man who was assigned an autistic assistance dog (sabre) when he was still young explaining what he considers as the ultimate source of happiness to an individual.
According to him, the ability to know who you are in terms of strength, weaknesses and differences with other people is the major source of happiness to a person. He points out the fact that knowledge is the answer to everything. This part is really thought provocative and makes me yearn to have a broad understanding of who I am regardless of what others think of me. It also makes me realize the need to respect everyone’s ideas since we have different minds that generate these different ideas.
Peter and sabre had a routine. One day, this routine changed when they visited the great ancient philosopher of Greece, Aristotle, in the great ancient city of Greece. The two, Aristotle and Philip had a dialog and Philip had his logical questions of life answered. They parted but Philip promised to come back to this great city. From their conversation, I learn to be creative and determined to make discoveries that would inspire others and to know that not everyone will understand me since they use their own mind. This part fulfilled my expectations of the place of knowledge as stated in the title.
One evening, Philip and sabre went back to the great city for exploration. They moved through the city and finally to a big building where they moved from one hall to another observing what was taking place in the different halls. They were later joined by Aristotle who explained to Philip what was taking place and the relevance of each activity that was going on.
This is a very fascinating novel that that has changed my way of thinking. It has taught me the core values of development, that is, encouraging different thinking so that different ideas can be put together through mutual understanding in order to get to a final resolution.
“higher thinking is a state of mind. It is something everyone can achieve.” These statements showed me that it is possible for one to achieve higher thinking. It also emphasized the need to start simple and then improve. It was so dramatic reading what the assistance dog was narrating with good vocabulary and grammar. For these reasons, I believe the novel deserves 4 out of 4 stars. It is a very interesting novel that has encouraged me to further develop my thinking and to use it to inspire others.
I recommend this book to all readers who have passion for exploring and making discoveries in order to make earth a better place to live in. It is a great source of courage knowing that not everyone will accept or follow your finding but you just have to learn more and do it your way. From this novel, I develop the saying, “after learning, learn.”
