If you're looking for a book that puts you right on the edge of your seat from the very first page, Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole is the book for you! The action starts right away and throughout the entire book it doesn't slow down at all, leaving you no room to even exhale. While reading, I felt every emotion possible. There were parts I was amused, most of the time I felt fear, but my overall emotion was just "awe".
Raven's Peak is the story of a strong demon hunter named Abigail and her "stumbled-upon" sidekick, Haatim. Abigail has been in this game since a child, when she was brought into a cult of abusive demons who tried their hardest to manipulate her and make her one of their followers. When her savior, and "adopted" father Arthur, saved her from the cult he raised her to be a trained hunter and taught her the ways of sending earthbound demons to their righteous place in Hell.
When Arthur is called by a member of the Council, Freida, of some terrible happenings, he ends up face to face with a possessed adult version of his precious beloved Abigail. He makes the ultimate sacrifice to save her and ends up being taken to a deeper part of Hell and in the company of some of the most terrible demons never heard of.
In Abigail's pursuit in rescuing the man who saved her life more than once, she stumbles across a very oblivious college student, Haatim, whose faith had diminished after the untimely loss of his younger sister to cancer. There was no way God could be real in his eyes, let alone demons. He was hired to follow Abigail around by a man convinced she was trying to kill him, and when Abigail finally had the chance to confront him about it she had no idea the adventures she was getting herself into. Being unable to let him fend for himself after finding out his value, the two venture to Raven's Peak and find themselves in the middle of a very powerful and extremely supernatural string of events.
I would rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. There are many typos throughout the book, but it was hard to tell if they were typos due to the downloaded version of the book I had or if they were overlooked by an editor. Either way, they didn't stop me from wanting to read every free chance I had. It is the first book of a series, and the ending definitely leaves you wanting more and full of questions that need answered. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys supernatural, demon possessions, and action. Very excited to read book 2!
Thank you, Lincoln Cole, for giving me the opportunity to read your book. If I could offer you any advice in your future novels I would say definitely pay attention to detail. There were things I read that I thought to myself did not follow something written in previous chapters. I loved the way you described the fighting scenes. You did such a good job painting pictures in my head with your words it literally felt at times that I was watching a movie! Actually, I hope someone does make a movie of your books because they would absolutely be something I would watch! Great book!
