The book, HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS AND TRICKS A Physician’s Advice, is a critical review and appraisal of some age-long beliefs, practices and conventions surrounding wellness and healthy living. Painstakingly, the author uses contemporary medical science hinged on his long years of practice and experience as a Physician to answer some of the most vexed questions of our time. From appraising Energy Drinks (safety and benefits), Dietary Supplements, Artificial Sweeteners, Anti-Oxidants, Genetically Modified Foods and Growth Hormones; the author also critically examines less contentious topics like the myth surrounding Wi-Fi, Commercial Air Travel safety, the Polygraph (Lie Detector) test and a lot more.

In a way, the book uses science to confirm and authenticate some well established facts; like the benefits of physical exercise on health and wellness, the obvious risks and dangers in Trans Fat consumption, the great nutritional benefits of drinking Green Tea and the time tested benefits of eating a breakfast in the morning. On the other hand, it raises apparent dust or controversy in some other areas; like its challenge and questioning the benefits of ‘stretching before exercising’, whether yearly medical tests and check-ups are necessary.

The author’s use of short or non lengthy chapters that are easy to read and quick to finish and approach of limiting the discussion to ‘tips’ instead of verbose discussion and explanation, make the book friendly to read. Even the slowest of readers can finish a handful of chapters in few hours.

I must admit that the book is well edited, except for few errors in the use of preposition in some contests. For instance, the context ‘that most litigious of countries, the USA’ on page 155, line 32, should rather read ‘the most litigious of countries’. There are a few more.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I consider the book great and would strongly recommend it to anyone who feels strongly about health and wellness; especially at a time when there is so much diverse and divided opinion on this subject matter. Putting out a well researched opinion and breaking it down into tips in such a way that any average reader can understand is highly commendable. I think the author’s efforts in using scientific information and data to tackle some of the most enduring myths, and pervasive falsehoods in the health sector is a great contribution to the debate.

I didn’t rate the book 4 stars, because while most of the topics were extensively discussed, there are still areas that need further debate and enlightenment, the author did well to provoke than clear it.
The book is a good read for every hungry mind.
