Review of Launchpad Republic
Launchpad Republic: America's Entrepreneurial Edge and Why It Matters by Howard Wolk and John Landry is a great and interesting book that gives a historic account of America’s entrepreneurship for like 200 years. The book discusses America’s political, legal, institutional, and cultural factors that have played and continue to play a great role in shaping America’s entrepreneurial landscape. This book has focused on America, giving a deep and comprehensive view of entrepreneurship and illustrating how and why America’s entrepreneurship rates top compared to other countries. The authors took their time to put together a well-researched historic story that indeed makes this America’s entrepreneurship outstanding.
There are distinct features of America's entrepreneurship that the authors have comprehensively discussed. The authors have comprehensively discussed how startups have fearlessly entered America’s economy and favorably competed with incumbent big and small companies. They have, in an exhaustive way with perfect examples, discussed how incumbent big companies have had to put up with competition from startups in order to continue operating or otherwise shut down and exit the economy.
The authors have in an interesting way discussed the rise of American capitalism and the comparison of America’s entrepreneurship to that of other countries like China, Israel, and England. The authors adequately discussed incumbent big companies like the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A and P), Standard Oil, and US Steal companies. The authors too took time to give their thoughts on how America’s entrepreneurship can continue to rate ahead of other countries.
I liked this book so much. The authors comprehensively gave a historic account of America’s entrepreneurship from the precolonial period to date. Case studies of companies like A&P and US Steel perfectly fit the concepts being discussed. Examples of entrepreneurs like Vanderbilt and Rockefeller as well as political personalities like James Madison were not just interesting but very informative. I give this book a 5-star rating. The book was professionally edited. I didn’t come across any editorial errors. The author used simple language that can be understood by everyone. I cannot forget to mention the great research done by these authors and an interesting history that goes back like 200 years of America’s history. I recommend this book to historians, upcoming entrepreneurs, big and small incumbent companies, and all business people. This book is rich in information that will impact their understanding of entrepreneurship.
