From Drift to Shift-Jody B Miller
This book is definitely aimed at all of us who simply cant get going. It provides motivation from multiple angles and is a very uplifting read. The book is written by Jody B Miller who is a business consultant who writes for various business publications. She is also a novelist. The tone of the book reminds me of a gentle sports coach, spurring the reader on.

The author supplies much wisdom and also draws from her own experience. It is clear that she is is a compassionate person with a heart for others.
This is what I was hoping for when I started reading the book and that is what it delivered. I like the image of the compass on the cover and how it relates to finding your way. The chapters flow and are sequenced in a logical way to facilitate change.
The book is structured in such a way that a person could read only one chapter at a time and have something to think about.
The author illustrates each chapter with stories of how others have made shifts and she comments about the way people think in general.“When we don’t think we are relevant in the world and nobody cares, we stop trying” Chapter 1.

The book uses diverse case studies to illustrate the various processes involved in making an actual change. I get the impression that the people referred to in the case studies were actual clients that she had form whom she drew experience.

At the end of each chapter there is a section titled “take aways” that summarises the chapter and could serve as a quick read for people who maybe want to skip to the next chapter. This in my opinion is a very good feature in a non- fiction book.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. The overly eastern spiritual content did not appeal to me and also I felt that the case studies could have been more summarized.
I feel that the lack of biographical and descriptive detail about the author needed attention as I actually had to consult Google to find out her background and expertise.

I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a bit of motivation. Also readers who enjoy the social and spiritual perspective. The book explores suffering that we all face but it also allows for contemplation on the state of the human race in general.
What stood out most for me in the book apart from making a change is the need and value that can be found in being of service to others.
