The Expelled by Mois Benarroch was an interesting read although it was not my cup of tea. Some of the writing was confusing just because of the structure of the sentences but it was a unique voice and kinda works most of the time. It was cool to see how the author weaved the different stories in the book together. It might have been better if there was more clarity as to when one part of the story ended and another began. But in that way it reminds me of other writers who write in a manner that mimics how we think, jumping from one thing to another. But unlike a lot of those authors, he actually uses punctualtion regularly, which is nice.

But the main story was bit vague but I know it was on purpose. It leaves you guessing as to whether what he thinks is happening is actually happening. I am not sure whether to call the narrator unreliable but it seems to me that he is. And the people in the story within the story are too. I am going to give it a 2 out of 4 just because it is not a book that was very appealing to me but it might be to other readers.

One thing that was interesting about this book is that it is a story about writing and a writer. The narrator is very self aware, at one point saying that he might call this book he is writing the Expelled, which as we know is the name of the book we are reading. It was a very inception like feel. And it is also a book about being an immigrant. He had so interesting insight on that.

But it just seemed like the narrator( in the main story) was disinterested in everything so you couldn't really muster up much excitement for anything that was happening because he didn't have any excitement himself. He just kind of went along with everything and let things happen to him. He was curious about what was happening but never outright asked for confirmation and just let it unfold and when it was over it was over. I just couldn't really relate very deeply to any one the characters.

So as I said before I am giving this book a 2 out of 4 because it just isn't my type of book. But it is decently written and the voice was unique.
