Escape by Belle Ami is a romantic thriller that not only focuses on war driven nations but also on the personal lives of those involved. It targets those who wish for peaceful resolutions and know what would be on the line if peace is not maintained. It involves a Harvard student Layla Wallace who is the daughter of a renowned nuclear physicist Layla and her boyfriend Zamir.

They are kidnapped on their holiday trip at Dubai. She meets her boyfriend's parents and his mum's opinion about women's place in the society being at the house cooking and cleaning and not at school startles her. This is because of the fame of her boyfriend’s family at Dubai and the ransom asked from his family could help the broke law enforcers. Cyras Hassani, an assistant to the director of Oghab saves Layla whilst at a prison from being raped in a prison well known for its abuse of power.

Usually, Cyrus was addicted to his work and was not interested in whatever the world out there had to offer. His only escape from his work was his lover Zahra but funny enough, he had no real feelings for her. They only used each other for pleasure and distraction. After Cyrus rescuing Layla, over time they end up falling in love with each other, something that Cyrus had never felt in his life ever again. He had for the longest time sacrificed his life and happiness for others and this time love had found him, and there was no going back. He and Layla end up getting a daughter, Cyrese. Holding the child in his arms he feels something incredible and joyous even though he had not been prepared for parenthood.

The characters of this book are realistic. I love how the writer not only focuses on their serious part of life but also focuses on their other life aspects. I most especially love how the writer is able to shift Cyrus from a very serious man to a man who is also prone to falling in love. I would advise people to read this book because it not only gives one an insight of how systems of the government work but also how one's life could be changed by love.

Cyrus was changed by love for Layla. She was his weakness most especially when he discovered that they had a child together. This book would mostly suit readers who believe in love overcoming all obstacles. Those that believe that indeed love stories should have a happy ending. I can almost recite the story about Kayla and Cyrus as though it is at the back of my hand. From how they met, to how he saved her up until when they started going steady and eventually bore a child, Cyrese.

I rate this book 2 out of 4. I found it a bit too easy to put down. I would recommend the author to make it more arresting and enticing.
