As Ecclesiastes said..."there is nothing new under the sun"...truer words have never been said. This is a challenge in the literary world as authors must create works that are new, original and fresh. How does one pull that off when there is literary a book on any and every thing? Scientists have long been fascinated with time travel, its no new concept. Albert Eistein through his theory of relativity gave a frame work for the exploration of this concept...that time is not one dimensional...not linear...that it is possibly complex and much more intricate than we realise.

Yesterday is a work of fiction about a young woman who happens to save a young police man's life. Her life is forever changed from then onwards as she makes an encounter with an old clock that feels familiar to her. She starts to go through a journey of discovering her link to the clock and the man who she saved and a most unbelievable story unravels.

I am not fully convinced with the authors approach to the matter as I feel there is an element of unrealistic simplicity to a concept that is far from easy to imagine or attempt to explain. Samyan takes us through a time in the past via a character who is in the now but is able to be hypnotised and made to go back to her past life which is actually her ancestor's life so she is her ancestor re-incarnate...confused? So am I. So this story is in essence implying that we never die, which agrees with the common scientific belief that energy is neither created nor destroyed. However where the contradiction or the confusing part comes in is where we are supposed to buy that the main character is her ancestor re-incarnate and she just happens to re-unite with her old life after a sense of familiarity is triggered by an enchanting clock. Another interpretation of the story could be that we all carry our ancestors in our make up, we possess their memories and spirits as we inherit them through birth. Did the author intend to leave the reader questioning? If that was the plan then very good job done.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 as I am not really all that convinced by it. I appreciate the attempt of the author to be original but unfortunately it is just not believable. Originality does not necessarily mean we must stray so far from basic science as to be unfathomable. If re-incarnation means we are just new copies of our old selves then that means we are all just living ghosts. It means the 7 billion people walking the earth today used to walk the earth 700 billion years ago...but that can't be true...humans have never been 7 billion before...gosh. Perhaps I am overthinking it but then what is the point of reading the book if one does not ponder over it?

Anyone who likes science fiction or science in general will enjoy this. The book is friendly to all age groups. It an easy read on the eyes with close to no grammar or spelling errors, suggesting professional editing work but I was not able to clearly see who published the book. It will definitely not bore you, baffle, maybe, frustrate maybe...never bore.
