Who Told You That You Were Naked by William E. Combs is a thought provoking examination of the christian faith. The author begins by looking at Adam and Eve's stay in the garden of Eden after which he proceeds to reexamine the circumstances that forced them to leave that idyllic setting and lifestyle. He then investigates how the devastating consequences of their actions adversely impacted Cain and Abel and subsequently enslaved us all. As he continues his narrative, William Combs explains why he felt a reexamination of Eden was necessary. He then takes us on a journey from the hopelessness of our plight as Adams' progeny to God's redemptive solution through faith in Jesus Christ. The book then examines faith and how it sets us free from sin and death. It then shows how our walk with Christ is always hampered by our adversary, Satan. We are nonetheless given hope that should we hear Christ's call and deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him, we would find rest in his finished work.

The message in this book is one of faith and hope. I was drawn to the way the author realistically examined faith from Adam to Jesus Christ and the hope he gives us. The reexamination of Eden gave me an in-depth look and perhaps, a different perspective on the issues of sin and death. I found the use of real life experiences, to carefully shed more light on some very common biblical issues such as sin, death, faith, hope, love, marriage, good and evil to be very insightful. I found his examination of these issues very interesting and thought provoking. His knowledge of theology made the examination much more informative.

Taking on some controversial issues such as good and evil, faith and hope, just to name a few, is no easy task. The angle the author uses to examine these issues gives the reader a different perspective of them. I was especially drawn to the thought provoking questions after each chapter. The questions gave me a more in-depth look and a different perspective of some issues I thought I had a good understanding of.

The book was marred by a couple of grammatical errors and a handful of repetitions. The grammatical errors were actually insignificant. The main problem in the writeup was repetition. Some paragraphs were repeated word for word. This occurred in almost every page especially in the first pages. This however does not distort the flow of the message.

Overall I would rate Who Told You That You Were Naked 3 out of 4 stars. Though I found the book deeply enriching, the recurrence of repetitions prevented me from giving the book a perfect rating. I would recommend this book for anyone who is doing some soul searching. It would also be a good read for anyone who is interested in gaining an insight into christianity.
