ESCAPE (Tip of the spear, book one) By Belle Ami
This is a very interesting, romantic book, with an action sequence attached to it. This book addresses the power of physical attraction in propelling a relationship between the opposite sexes. It also highlights the struggle for power between sovereign states. It also shows the many intrigues of life that are associated with different kinds of people , living with different environmental and social orientations. Such as culture, tradition, communities / societies of different governments, food, language and lifestyle. Which could be seen in this book, in the occurrence of murder, rape, travels, paranoia and precursor of life and death.
MOIS - The Ministry of Intelligence and Security , is the highest intelligence authority in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In which Cyrus is the assistant to the deputy director of Oghab2. Jalal Rahimi is Cyrus's boss and , he answers directly to the Minister of Oghab2 , MOIS's counter-intelligence directorate.
Evin , a city in Iran , was converted to a prison by the Sha's brutal security and intelligence service - SAVAK. Cyrus visited Evin to intervene on the interrogated American prisoner. Once there , Cyrus told his subordinate - Mohammad , to hands off the suspect , as its likely , the suspect isn't what they deemed him to be. By stopping Mohammad , Cyrus would prevent an accidental or intentional killing of the suspect by the brutal interrogative techniques of his savage subordinate , which would spark an international incident by the U.N Human Rights Commission.
Cyrus had a secret affair with Zahra , wife of the deceased , national personality, in Iran. He later , visited the nuclear enrichment facility, built at the base of the Fordow Mountains. An operative , at the base and also , a close friend of his - Sharif Kashani , took him on a tour of the base , where, he showed him , were the International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEA , will have access to, for inspection , and also , he took him to the new facility underneath the missile base. Where the inspection team don't know about, let alone, have access to , (where they had started separating isotope by laser excitation).
Layla and Zamir fell head over heels for one another. Though , having different religious and cultural backgrounds, their love had no - bounds. Their parents seem to be the only barrier to their union. And unfortunately , their abduction , marked the end of their union, their love. Layla and Zamir, were captured in Zamir's hotel room and flown in a private jet from Dubai , to Evin prison , in Iran by the MOIS organization. The sole purpose of their kidnap , inwhich , Layla's kidnap came as an inevitable collateral damage , was to raise funds for the movement initiated in Iran , (by placing a ransom on Zamir's head). Layla was taken to Evin prison and accused of a crime , she did not commit. Cyrus's mission was to convince Layla of his credibility in providing her a safe heaven ,by employing his charming romantic techniques. He was also , ordered to opt-out of his dalliance relationship with Zahra Amiri.
Aleck and Rebecca Wallace , are Layla's parents. Professor Aleck Wallace knew the prime minister of Israel. The two were roommates , back during school days. The professor contacted his old friend for help. Help in bringing back his daughter from the kidnappers , who's whereabouts were unknown. The prime minister , knowing the implications of his role in assisting the renowned American nuclear scientist , gladly offered all , his country could offer to recover his friend's daughter, and also retract his mole , within the Iranian territory.
Cyrus's rescue of the American turned to a long term love affair between the two , resulting in a series of unfolding events , in their struggles to freedom from the Iranian MOIS forces of Oghab2 , led by his boss - Jalal Rahimi. Jalal set out, an all out man hunt for the two fugitives. And expressed great pleasure in having the chance to killing Cyrus himself. Jalal considered Cyrus a traitor , who turned against someone , who took him as a son and gave every little bit of help and assistance one needed to stand on his feet. He would have Layla raped repeatedly in - front of Cyrus , then ransomed , afterwards , kill Cyrus himself (he asserted).
The well thought out action of Cyrus , to write a letter to the director of MOIS , exposing who Jalal really was , and his threat to the national security and stability of Iran , and the timely intervention of the "BLACK HAWK" , that arrived at the dying minute to save the day , culminated to the overall success of the operation "ADAM AND EVE", which ended the hardship Layla and Cyrus had been exposed to.
I agree with the author's expression of Layla's reaction , when she realized the position of captivity , she was in, when she remarked
"Who would kidnap people with a private jet?.
Her rhetorical question , was the same question , I asked myself.
But , the author style , portrayed Islam in a way , that could give the wrong idea about the religion. In areas such as when Jalal said
"Perhaps when am finished killing you , I will keep her as my Sariyyah , praise be to Allah , she will be my concubine."
Concubines have since been forbidden in Islam , and his praising Allah , here , gives a wrong notion.
Secondly , the author lets go of a character that was of high significance to the events unfolding ,- Zamir. After his abduction , no mention was made of him again , when it's the same umbrella cooperation that kidnapped both him and Layla. As if the writer was siding with Cyrus to keep Zamir permanently buried somewhere , in an unknown zone to be forgotten rotten , in order , not to cause an imbalance and/or interference to the "romantic " sequence of love through lust development between the love birds , Cyrus and Layla.
This book raises the big question on every guy or lady's lips - who is the right guy or the right lady ?. These are hard questions to answer by all standards. The latter statement is now subdued by the statement - nobody is perfect. The book also takes a glimpse at trans-cultural relationships and some factors surrounding it. Factors like , time , environment ,religion and culture. This book nevertheless , did not include Christianity , which is a sister religion to Islam. When a discussion on religion is brought up in a heterogeneous society such as , Iran , Israel and America , Christianity will also be mentioned in one way or the other. The book mentioned Muslims and Jews , no Christians or idol worshippers.
This book is most appealing to people who are into physical appearances and lust , as a drive to a successful relationship or marriage. But , in my honest opinion , my view of the sort of relationship between Layla and Cyrus , is an immoral type. It's a relationship based on longing for sex and a desperate ego in fulfilling their desires , which resulted to Layla conceiving a baby out of wedlock for Cyrus. When Layla's mother said , as a dying wish , that Layla should not have sex ,until she met the right guy , - simply meant , until she's married.
This book is a most read , it's highly interesting and intriguing. It keeps the reader on the edge of his seat.
I rate this book , 4 out of 4 , because it was very interesting to read and all people of different ages, places and works , can enjoy it. Though it is not for the minors ,due to some of its explicit contents. But even a religious person or a gentleman or a lady , could easily read through and have fun without being intoxicated by the immorality which the sex scenes could have posed . If not , for the counter active , self propelling action sequences all through the book. So yes ,the inter-mingling action scenes , reframes the readers psychology , that sex here , is an aberration (a sort of a "jungle justice" ) , which is of less importance , therefore , not worth recapitulating in the reader's mind.
