[Following is a volunteer review of "Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures" by Catherine A. Pepe.]
Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is an interesting children’s book written by Catherine A. Pepe, who wrote this book using the Miller family as the main characters as they relate to other amazing characters in the book. Donny and Mary Grace are the two children of Mr. and Mrs. Miller.
Mr. Miller is a priest at St. James Episcopal Church. Donny is the younger brother of Mary Grace, and he has Down syndrome. The Millers lived in Kansas, and they enjoyed spending family time together while visiting places like the Sedgwick County Zoo. However, Mr. and Mrs. Miller had to travel to Africa for a period of two years for communal service, so their two children, Mary Grace and Donny, had to stay with their grandparents in California for the duration when the parents were absent. To find out about their experiences with their grandparents, get a copy of the book.
There are a lot of things I liked about the book because the author did a good job with this amazing children's book. I like the author's writing style because he knows how to grab readers attention, keeping them glued to the book. The storyline is very interesting, and I really liked how the book progressed. The characters in the book were excellently described. I love the author's description of places and things, as well as the different plot twists, which made it unpredictable to find out how events would turn out. Mary Grace and Donny’s relationship with their grandmother was fun to read about. The book, notwithstanding being a children's book, educates one about real-life issues like bullying and the causes of such acts, as it was addressed in the book when Donny was being bullied.
I didn’t dislike anything about the book because it didn’t have anything negative. The book was well written. This justifies my rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It also has a unique cover page that shows the Miller family, and this gives readers a clue to what the book entails. It was also free of errors because it was exceptionally well edited. I recommend the book to fans of children's books and lovers of adventure because I believe they will enjoy reading it.
