Escape by Belle Ami is unmistakably a romantic thriller. The author has succeeded in balancing both romance and espionage in bringing out the novel in a tolerable manner. Beginning with Layla, a student candidate at Havard university studying for her docterate in history of art and architecture, Ami builds up the story without giving us the slightest clue. The story becomes critical when Layla decides to accompany her Arabian boyfriend, Zamir to Dubai. In spite of her father's disapproval she travels to Dubai where the real adventure begins.

Zamir is highlighted as a worthy citizen of the wealthy class which influences him to be kidnapped by the enemy to Iran. Layla is not very amusing to Zamir's parents. Zamir is brought out to be a pussy near his parents when he shows no objections to their remarks of displeasure of Layla. The hidden truth of the wealthy society is exposed with humiliation using unmistakable tactics very cleverly. Another such instance is the rescue of their son ignoring Layla who was also under the same circumstances.

Layla's father being a renowned nuclear physist with his childhood friend, the Israeli prime minister is somehow determined to save his abducted daughter. Cyrus is entitled the task of rescuing Layla. Cyrus is introduced as mossad spy serving among the enemy without being the least suspicious. It is interesting how the novelist chooses the exact plot to bring out the hidden message. Also it should be noted the way Ami professionally manipulates the minor characters without harming either the quality of the novel or making them unimportant. The simple language used has served as a blessing in attracting readers.

Beginning with the least primary stage relationship between Layla and Zamir, Ami develops a most intense sexual relationship betwen Layla and Cyrus at the climax. Thus the novelist succeeds in creating vivid imageries of sexual arousals among the audience. The escapade is far from easy. The untold love between Cyrus and Layla has been the only weapon strengthening them until the end. It is impressive how Ami builds up the story very slowly bathing the reader in indecisiveness.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars in order to appreciate the effort of the author in bringing out a well-sought out theme matching present society. Respect ushered upon the female is incredible. As a weeakness I would like to point out the few editorial error which kept me re-reading the same parts. Apart from that I guarantee it to be an influential novel fit for anyone interested in espionage from an adult audience.
