Exodus, by Jean Hackensmith and Joseph Mcdowell, is a futuristic science fiction novel that deals with the destruction of planet Earth. A neutron star named Ulysses is headed towards us and has caused absolute chaos. It is a matter of time before it collides with our planet and rips it apart because of its gravitational pull. Garrett Long and other astrophysicists are responsible for building ships that will take a tiny group of humans away from Earth. Also, they need to find another habitable planet to save at least some portion of humanity in this crisis.

Personally, this was quite a thrilling roller-coaster ride for me. The destruction shown in the book is realistic enough for any reader. The earthquakes, flooding, and other natural disasters shown in the book were goosebumps-inducing and scary. It was almost like I was watching a movie.

When humanity faces a catastrophe, heroes are born. And that is who Garrett Long is - a hero. Even after watching his dad die right in front of him, he does not give up. Garrett gets right into the mission of figuring out the problem. And every chance that Garrett gets, he sets out to save people and brings them aboard the ship. Sometimes, he even crosses his boundaries and goes beyond his call of duty.

The authors must have spent a great deal of time researching the scientific portion of the story. As a layperson, it was hard for me to understand some of the scientific jargon. However, the authors have explained some of them in great detail. I was super impressed with their skill level in explaining every little piece of the scientific parts of the book.

What else can I say about the book? There was nothing about the book that I disliked. With the natural disasters that humanity has been facing in our real lives, it seems likely that any of the scenarios mentioned in the book can happen in our lifetimes, too. The story is a lesson for us all. And I sincerely hope that the efforts taken by the authors pay off and people understand how precarious our lives can be.

Honestly, I kept searching for editing errors throughout the book. I can truthfully say that I found none. The editors have done a great job. I would be more than happy to give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good science fiction novel with spaceships and space travel thrown in for good measure.
