Followed My Star by AR Annahita, is an engaging read that summarizes the thoughts of the Author regarding different issues. Some of the themes the author addresses are freedom, sexuality, abortion, religion, marriage, corruption, health, and policy and governance. In nineteen brief chapters, the author summarizes a reflection of the mind. Furthermore, she expresses her desire to connect with people who share her views. More deeply, the Author is trying to invite the audience to join her in exploring what is on their mind and take action instead of accepting things as they know without question.

From another angle, it feels as though the author is trying to compare the policies in the US with those in other countries. For example, in chapter 5, she expresses concern that the prices of medical services are higher in the US as compared to other countries. To some extent, it feels as though the author is complaining about the circumstances of her country and advocates for change.

I liked how the author expressed authority throughout the book. Her tone all through reminds the reader that the book is strictly her original and genuine views. Moreover, she uses many rhetoric questions when introducing a new idea which I thought is a good way to engage the reader’s mind.

As I read this book, I disliked that it was difficult to identify the theme the author is trying to address. The chapters are very brief. It would have been nicer if the writer used headings and sub-headings for the respective chapters to help the reader understand what each chapter would address. For instance, each chapter would introduce a new and unique theme. That way, the reader would grasp a better flow of the story.

In my opinion, the author of Followed My Star seeks to engage the readers in thought and reflection rather than entertain them. For that matter, I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys critical thinking or someone who seeks to understand other people’s views on common themes in life. Followed My Star highlights almost all aspects of human life and numerous concepts that people like to discuss.

I rate this book 2 out of 4. Firstly, the book has numerous grammar errors. For instance, in chapter 4, in the second paragraph, the author writes ones instead of once. Another example is in chapter seventeen, the second paragraph when she says,”…a depressed person could find its way out…” There are other instances of wrong grammar through the text.
