Followed my Star: (Volume 3)
by AR Annahita

Followed my Star is a non-fiction philosophical outlook based on the theory that everything is best 'in
the middle.' The author seems to feels that the key to life lies in finding balance in all things. She
suggests that, rather than rely on religion, people should use their own instincts and not follow blindly.
Some of the comparisons made are between good and evil, republican and democrat, America and
Europe, and upper and lower classes. The message portrayed throughout is a call to change the current
trajectory of the world, one person at a time.

Annahita delves into matters of American greed, political unfairness, abortion, homosexuality and
organized religion. She alleges that greed has destroyed the American system and that the upper class
should be doing more to help the lower class. She feels that religion should have no role in politics as
it can only cause evil. Instead, she believes we are all children of the world, not to be viewed as
representations of any particular country or religion. The Bible and Quran are put under the
microscope as she questions whether these books are historical fact or if their true purpose is to cause
feelings of guilt and judgment. Conversely, Annahita's beliefs seem to lie with following a higher
power on a universal and spiritual level rather than a religious one.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. I appreciate the author's viewpoint that everything is best 'in the
middle' as it generally reflects my personal philosophy. However it is just that, a personal philosophy.
Diversity is what makes the world go 'round, and not everyone will concur that the middle is the place
to be. There are those who will excel and those who were not meant for greatness. I am in agreement
that there are problems and issues that arise at the extreme spectrum on any matter. However, I
disagree that we will gain world peace and all problems will be solved by coming together in the
middle. Sadly, life is complicated and not that straightforward.

It is well known that discussing politics or religion will be sure to cause friction and disagreement, yet
this author expresses her personal opinions on both subject matters with some abandon. I may not
agree with all of her beliefs but I must say that I do admire her honesty and bravery in that regard. It
was obvious to me that her upbringing has a lot to do with her current belief system. She wrote of her
life struggles, world travels, and experiences which back up her convictions.

Although I found the reading to be thought provoking at times, I felt the book fell short on depth and
perspective. The author is Iranian and, possibly due to a language barrier, there were many
grammatical errors throughout. The reading was not smooth but rather choppy as it bounces back and
forth between topics. I also found it quite repetitive. This book is not necessarily my cup of tea but
again, our culture is extremely diverse and some may find it interesting and provocative.

I read this book too. I also gave it a 2 out of 4 stars because the author sometimes makes good points, but the lack of proper editing diminishes the book. Good review, by the way!
