The Raven’s Peak by Lincoln Cole is a fictional novel, mainly about supernatural beings and happenings. The story progressed around a girl named Abigail who was trained to fight against supernatural beings since her childhood by the man she considers as her father, Arthur. And Haatim who found himself entangled to the world of supernatural. Together they fight to survive, to save and to find the answers.

The novel has a fast-paced plot. The whole story practically happened in only two days. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading it. The thrill and action in the beginning of the story was still there until the end. The action scenes were superb, especially the scene on the way to the factory, reading it feels like I’m in the novel as well. Also, the descriptions of the scenes, particularly in the church and cabin, are so realistic that I can still imagine them in my head. And it scares me at night. The only thing I was kind of disappointed was the ending. It has an open yet hanging ending. It has a good ending, however, I expected that it will stand alone without the second book.

I rate this novel 3 out of 4, I found the story too fast-paced however I commend the author for the consistency of the excitement all throughout the novel. Very well written with a superb plot! Can’t wait to read the Raven’s Fall and Raven’s Rise.

As I was reading the novel, I noticed the undying political issues in terms of superiority. And how people easily lost sight of what is important just for the sake power and how people easily judge others from just one or a few mistake/s. In which, I think everyone could relate. Also, while reading this novel, we can see that the bad things those supernatural beings has and did, such as killing, lying, being greedy and lustful, does actually exists in humans themselves and this is shown in a specific chapter of the novel and I found that chapter quite disturbing. Though one of the things I liked in this novel was that there is no restriction or discrimination in the religion or belief among the characters. This I hope, though unlikely, could happen in reality.

All in all, the novel was worth the read. I suggest to everyone to read it. And do not stop at Raven’s Peak, read the whole series.
