Review of Guilty of Stealing His Heart
Love moves in mysterious ways. Someone once told me that love happens when you least expect it, and you should welcome it with open arms. However, what happens when many problems hinder you from loving someone?
Guilty of Stealing His Heart is a historical fiction novel by Nancy Lynn White. In this book, the story revolves around the main character, Carrie Wagner in the 1800s. The female protagonist of the book has spent most of her life in an orphanage, wondering why she was left by her mom. In that orphanage, she meets another orphan named Ruth, who she became close friends with. Many years later, she falls in love and decides to marry a banker. However, the surprising twists begin when her husband is suspected of robbing a bank and killing a Pinkerton agent. Once she decides to recover from these events, she decides to go to California to embark on a new adventure and to create her own family with her orphans. However, she meets JT Grant and unexpectedly falls in love. They also encounter a young boy named Billy, who has a very interesting story that intertwines with them. Carrie and JT's love story unfolds as they face the difficulties and traumas they have been dealing with.
First, I think this is a perfect book to read if you are into the historical fiction or romance genre. One of the things I loved about this book is the storytelling of the author. She was able to create a strong foundation to introduce the character of Carrie as a strong and resilient female during that period. I also love the slow build-up of romance between the two main characters, Carrie and JT. These characters had intense chemistry from start to finish. I love that the author created these flawed yet relatable characters, and it just goes to show that love conquers a lot of things. Aside from that, this book is very interesting from start to finish. It is also very easy to read.
I also really appreciate that the author touched on the topic of racism and adoption in this book. These are sensitive topics, yet the author did a terrific job of incorporating them into the plot. I also admire the sisterhood between Carrie and Ruth. It just goes to prove that you can have an everlasting bond with someone and consider them as family, without being biologically related. I also did not find any errors in this book, so I find it to be exceptionally well-edited. If there is something I would just like to have, it would be to add more story regarding the biological mother of Carrie.
Overall, I would still rate this book 5 out of 5. This is a great romance read that will make you believe in love again. I would recommend this to adult readers since there are some scenes regarding murder. If you are an adult reader looking for a perfect romance or mystery read, this is the book you should check out. You will not be disappointed.
