[Following is a volunteer review of "E M P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer.]
"E M P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer is an engaging and entertaining science fiction novel. It follows the story of a married couple, Kelly and Tom Turbulo, along with some other intriguing characters. During their peaceful honeymoon on a resort island, things take an unexpected turn when Kelly accidentally encounters a dangerous terrorist group. Realizing the peril she is in, Kelly contacts her brother, Senator Mike McBride, for help. Mike then reaches out to Assistant Director Joseph, whom he believes can assist. Through their investigation, they discover that the group is planning an attack on North America, which they must prevent. Do they succeed? Read the book to find out.
This book boasts an exceptional plot. Its realistic touch and vivid descriptions allow readers to visualize the story as if it were happening in real life. The book also includes some scientific facts, explaining the dangers of a solar flare and an EMP (electromagnetic pulse). The narrative explores the geopolitical implications of nations striving for dominance through nuclear weapons and technology.
Overall, the book is the perfect blend of action and refreshment, capturing the excitement of a race of selflessness and love for one's home country. The author skillfully introduces engaging characters like Steve Somebody, Aggie, and Sharon, who stand out with their rich dialogues and vibrant personalities. The text exudes a relatable quality while reading the book. It includes a touch of military and scientific jargon that enhances the story without confusing the reader. The plot is well-executed, with the climax and conflicts resolved in a timely manner, ensuring the story doesn't drag on unnecessarily.
However, the novel is not without its flaws. The pacing slows somewhat in the middle, with some info-dumping that disrupts the story's flow. While this slightly affects the momentum, it doesn't significantly detract from the overall enjoyment. Hence, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars due to its compelling plot and exceptional editing, as I found no grammatical errors while reading. I'd recommend this book to lovers of science fiction with elements of a modern-day setting. Additionally, if you enjoy a thrilling and suspenseful reading experience, this book could be for you.
