During their honeymoon in Honduras, Kelly and Tom Turbulo encounter an unforeseen twist of events when Kelly discovers a surprising revelation hidden in an unassuming tourist spot. Concerned for her safety, Kelly seeks help from her brother, Senator Mike McBride. As the situation escalates and conventional avenues prove ineffective, Mike reaches out to his acquaintance at the CIA, Assistant Director Joseph Rench, further heightening the sense of urgency.

The inclusion of a foreign government introduces an additional layer of intricacy to the storyline, rendering the unfolding events both unsettling and convincingly feasible. The characters, depicted as relatable individuals, infuse a sense of familiarity into the narrative. Mercer adeptly weaves everyday occurrences—such as a visitor grappling with the intense Honduran heat—into the fabric of the storytelling, thereby enriching its authenticity. Moreover, the use of clear sub-headings in the chapters ensures smooth transitions and prevents any ambiguity regarding the ongoing events.

Dorothy May Mercer, the author, recognized that certain aspects of the book might be challenging for readers to grasp. Given the potentially unfamiliar subjects and terminology, I appreciate how she included a detailed explanation in Chapter Two about governmental relations, nuclear warfare, missile defenses, and EMPs—topics that resurface later in the book. Mercer’s consideration for her readers is evident, as she empathetically places herself in their shoes and writes effectively.

The chapter titles appeared overly prominent, disjointed, and distracting. It seems the author, in an effort to maintain a fast-paced narrative, hurried through certain plotlines. Additionally, some characters felt underdeveloped and sacrificed in favor of maintaining a brisk tempo. If I were to alter anything about the book, it would be this aspect.

I thoroughly enjoyed E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer, awarding it a perfect 5 out of 5 stars rating. The novel impressed me with its polished writing, devoid of any errors during my reading. The captivating storyline provided an amazing reading experience. Additionally, for fellow enthusiasts, it’s worth noting that this book is part of the McBride Series.
