Carlos's "Eternity" centers on the relationship between two main characters who feel right for each other. The relationship is not without its problems, as is the case with any relationship. They are happy, and it's not only because it seems so, but because they know that they have found the one. However, when they find themselves apart, their thoughts swiftly turn to their relationship, and fear lurks around every corner. Why would they not think that to be so? When it feels so perfect. Well, the thing is, what they have been dreading might be true, because not only are they not in control, but they are being controlled by a pair of supernatural metabeings who watch them very closely.

As with most books about relationships, readers are rooting for the success of the relationship, but we know some obstacles are always on the way. So we don't know what will happen in the end. Will it work out? Most are, but some don't. If all have the same ending, it will beat the purpose, don't you think? But in "Eternity," you always know something bad will happen because there is a pair of ethereal supernatural players who control them, and they can do whatever they want. But what are the bad things that are waiting to happen? Meanwhile, it'll make us feel dreadful for waiting for the worst thing that will be thrown at them. This thrilling thing is also the good thing about this book, literally. Despite the fact that the pair of immortal beings can do anything, they have rules that they won't kill humans, but there are worse things than death. In this sense, they are like chess players who move pieces on the board. A game they can play however they want, but with rules they have set.

In between the main plots of those above, we'll learn about the characters. The male counterpart is more philosophical, whereas the female is more down-to-earth. This echoes with the immortal beings as well. Surely they philosophize a lot, as they are the ones who see.

The quality of the writing is on par with the best literary books. Even though some parts in the beginning are too lavish, they're compensated by the author's deep understanding of psychology and philosophy in general and specifically of love relationships.

"Eternity" is not only a story about romance. It's not only a question about what love is; it's a question about life. And we have the immortals to confirm this (in parallel with the mortals). With all those penetrating powers brought by this book, I rate it five out of five stars, as I have nothing to dislike except for a little bit of a lavish beginning. Because this book is built upon the framework of romance, I will first recommend it to readers who are starting a relationship, as they will be fully enjoying the ride.
