Living a Life in Balance
Author: Abdullah Boulad
Abdullah Boulad suggests using this book as a unique tool and, once finished, continuing to refer to it to help us improve our whole body and soul; I can see why. It is an uplifting, beautifully alternative, instructive, and, in many ways, life-changing self-help book.
A pyramid at the beginning summarises the book's basic structure, with physical health as the base and largest section. This chapter provided some interesting nutritional pointers, including the fact that Lebanese food (the author's nationality) can be highly nutritious.
He goes on to extol the virtues of mindfulness, being conscious of all you do, when you eat, when you think, etc., and sometimes using the '5-second rule' to use 'deep thought' when making decisions. Meditation should include the whole of you, including the thoughts running around your mind. He advises putting the smartphone away.
I enjoyed how he encourages us to connect with people again and use good human attributes such as kindness, patience, and gratitude in our daily lives. He had a heart attack when his infant son was in the hospital, and he realised that his body needed 're-aligning' physically, mentally, and spiritually, and so, in many ways, this book comes from his heart.
As I read the book, I found his advice personable and easy to follow. I have already practised some of his methods and recommend them to everyone. His writing is light, nonverbose, and easy to follow, and I enjoyed the little cartoon on page 175. Life is short, and too much of it is compromised by highly detrimental habits. With the lovely Arabic flavour, this book delivers a way out of these practices and into a new you.
I could find nothing to dislike, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. However, a few more pictures and quotes would have lightened the prose for me. I saw no grammatical errors and recommend this read to everyone. A five out of five-star rating is appropriate.
