Strong Heart is a non-fictional book written by Charlie Sheldon. This book, though strongly placed in real time, introduces glimpses into a time long passed. With hard to believe sightings and strange stories come to life, one might wonder if this is initially a story about magic of some kind. This book is interesting, thought provoking, and even mysterious at times. Between bears, armed surveyors, and ancestral legends, it is safe to say that a reader will look forward to turning the page to see what lies waiting.

In this interesting tale, Tom learns of his granddaughter's existence mere moments before a planned hiking trip in the Olympic National Park in Washington. Deciding not to veer from the original plan, Tom, his young, and newly introduced, granddaughter Sarah, his friend William and William's daughter Myra all journey into the park together. While on this journey, Tom hopes to return something to his grandfather's grave only to realize that this piece may be the answer they've been looking for. However, something happens to Sarah, who inadvertently goes off on an adventure on her own, that leads the rest of the team to ultimately make a decision that could affect the rest of their lives as well as the lives of those in their port town.

The references to the park exhibit clear and concise knowledge of the area, its remains consistent throughout. The details within the story were written well enough as to allow the reader to create an image in their own minds. The characters, while easy to get to know, fit well within the storyline and their personalities remain consistent throughout. By the end of the book a reader can all but know how a character would react or respond to a situation.

The storyline takes a dramatic turn very quickly and when Sarah's memory becomes her shared story, it happens so that the content of the story almost leaves you wondering if you're reading the same book; not unlike Alice falling down the rabbit hole. It could easily throw you off. The detail in the memories, however, remain as consistent as within the rest of the book; everything is easy to visualize. After you get your bearings within the inner story, the flow is easier to grasp.

All in all, I would rate Strong Heart with 4 out of 4 stars. It may take a bit of stretching to make sense of certain parts of the story but the book as a whole was well written and really quite interesting. I believe this book would mostly appeal to an older generation, but the historical aspect is intriguing, with theories, as well as facts, smoothly combined.

Thank you for your review. I think the book is a fitting manifestation of the research efforts and success of the author in convincingly merging mystical folklore and pragmatic scientific thought. Some parts of the book also didn't initially seem to be too clear at times especially when the narrative changes in character perspectives, but I guess those served as prompts for us to read even further.
