[Following is a volunteer review of "Chrome Mountain" by Ben Schneider.]
Reading Chrome Mountain by Ben Schneider has been quite an adventure for me. The book begins with Sonya McCall on her Harley-Davidson bike, trying to leave her past behind. This opening scene sets a vivid image of her journey, making me feel like I was right there with her, gazing at the emerald treetops and sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe. Sonya’s encounter with Brock Laxdal, a member of her former biker gang, adds a sense of tension and excitement to the story, hinting at the dangers she’s running from and the strength she must summon.
As I delved further into the story, I found the dual narratives of Sonya and Trey interesting. Trey’s creation of a cloaking device, the VV1, which can make one invisible when worn, added a sci-fi theme that kept me on the edge of my seat because of the danger it poses if it falls into the wrong hands.
One of the book's aspects I appreciate most is how the author mixes action-packed moments with solid character development. Sonya’s memories of her father and her decision to leave her old life behind are also touching. I didn’t notice any typographical errors in the book, so a professional editor must have edited it. This speaks a lot about the quality of the book.
Rating this book five out of five stars is a straightforward decision for me. This is due to the well-crafted plot, unpredictable characters, and flawless editing, which make the book a standout read. Including action-packed moments by the author also kept me hooked from the beginning to the end of the book.
I did not find any significant negatives or areas for improvement in this book. The pacing, character development, and plot twists were all well executed. So, I recommend this book to fans of action, adventure, and sci-fi. If you enjoy stories with strong and complex characters, this book is definitely for you.
