McDowell is a sensational book that explores themes related to ethics and morality. It is about a surgeon, Hiram Mcdowell, who is successful in his profession because he is a go-getter. However, his morality and family values are greatly lacking. We see him hiking with his buddy, and his buddy is in danger. What kind of man will Hiram exhibit? Will he help his friend or leave him at such a critical time?

William H. Coles' McDowell is a novel that explores the dangerous effects of greed on an accomplished general surgeon and a somewhat devoted father. I love that this book highlights the negative effects of video games on children and how playing such games can transform even the most docile child into a cruel and merciless individual. It calls into question whether it's time for society to examine the impact of these games on children and take appropriate measures to address this growing concern.

Another issue that the book raises is the need for balanced and objective journalism. In the book, the author emphasizes the importance of the mainstream media, which is a powerful tool for shaping public perception. However, it also highlights the need for accountability in journalism and the dangers of the media being used as a propaganda tool. The book calls for the need for objective journalism that is not slanted in favor of a particular individual or ideology but instead seeks to present balanced and unbiased reports.

Hiram's inner conflicts make him a relatable and understandable character for anyone looking to grasp the complexities of human nature; hence, I recommend this book to such a person. McDowell offers readers a rare insight into how greed and the desperate pursuit of power can lead an individual down a path of self-destruction. The book was professionally edited, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I gave it a perfect rating because there was nothing I disliked about it.

*McDowell’s third marriage to Carole is particularly interesting because it highlights his emotional detachment. The fact that he views marriage as a practical arrangement rather than a loving union speaks volumes about his character and adds a layer of cold logic to his personality.

The ethical dilemmas McDowell faces in his professional life mirror the isolation he experiences in his personal life. These parallels between his career and his relationships add depth to the story, making his eventual unraveling all the more poignant.

The idea of a surgeon facing personal and professional challenges in different parts of the world could make for an engaging and diverse storyline.

The fact that the book explores the consequences of infidelity could make it feel more mature and thought-provoking than some other medical thrillers.

The idea of a surgeon founding a hospital in Nepal could provide a unique perspective on the challenges and rewards of international medical work.

The idea of a successful person struggling with personal issues could make the book feel more relatable and human. I wonder if the book delves into the medical ethics of working in a resource-limited setting like Nepal.
