Niching Up by Chris Dreyer is one book every businessperson should have on their shelf. The book provides an exposition on the pros and cons of focusing on a specific area or niche in a particular market or industry. Chris Dreyer himself runs a niche business as the owner of Rankings.io, a firm that creates and manages SEO websites for personal injury attorneys. Through his book, Dreyer tries to guide businesspeople who plan to niche up or are still yet to find their place in their industry.

This must be one of the best business books I’ve read so far. The author’s style of writing, which includes bits of humour and a conversational tone, ingrained the words of the book in my mind. I like that the author didn’t pose the idea of niching up as the most ideal option but penned down the book just to share his experience, knowledge, and advice in the business sphere, such that you can’t help but resonate with him.

The book also goes beyond its title and uses its powerful teaching approach to guide readers on the other important things that make one stand out. The author would incorporate extracts from other books, words from experts, and personal examples to not only make the book compelling but also intriguing to read. However, the book still retained its subject matter and raised every aspect of its discourse around the idea of niching up, which is one thing I like about it. In fact, I would say that the book is a testimony to its own teaching because the focus of the author was pinpoint, which meant more conciseness, fewer generic jargon, and no overwhelming readers with numerous suggestions.

My favourite part of the book was the writer’s narration on how he became a world poker champion; there was nothing that brought the story home more than that, especially when it came to his discussion and teachings on expertise.

Overall, I am rating the book five stars out of five stars.

I couldn’t find anything to dislike about the book, except that the title didn’t ring a bell about the book’s content. Perhaps if the book had a more noticeable or explanatory title, then I would have read it long ago and not just discovered it through its description. Given my appraisals so far, I believe the book deserves a perfect rating, coupled with the fact that it was flawlessly edited. Niching Up is a book suited for both beginners and experts who are bothered by the ifs and whens of niching up.
