Roan: The Tales of Conor Archer by E. R. Barr tells the story of Conor Archer, a teenager from Chicago who uncovers his mysterious Celtic heritage after a family tragedy. Sent to the small town of Tinker’s Grove in Wisconsin, Conor discovers that this place is a blend of myth, magic, and hidden secrets. The town's residents, including mystical shapeshifters known as the Roan, share a common heritage with Conor. As he navigates his new life, Conor learns that his actions could determine the fate of two worlds. Despite the challenges of losing his mother and grappling with newfound powers, Conor fights to maintain his humanity. This captivating urban fantasy blends folklore with modern twists, creating an engaging tale of adventure and self-discovery.

Conor Archer’s struggle with identity and destiny amid a shadowy world vividly portrays the timeless clash between good and evil, light and darkness, making for an exhilarating and memorable read. Fans of demons, secrets, mystery, and myth will find themselves drawn into this urban fantasy. Barr’s storytelling is rich and immersive, crafting characters that grow and evolve throughout the narrative, keeping readers hooked. His vivid descriptions, like the mist-shrouded Wisconsin River, paint a picture that lingers in the mind. The novel also explores profound themes of sudden change and personal adaptation, touching on the challenges of navigating life’s unexpected turns. Overall, it captivates with its compelling narrative and atmospheric world-building, leaving readers eagerly anticipating each new revelation.

One disadvantage of this book was how lengthy it was. It seemed scary at first when I saw it, and I got tired at some point. However, the suspense and twists were good enough to overshadow this minor drawback. The editing was perfect. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars because of the reasons I listed above. Lovers of novels with superpowers and a lot of twists will love this one.
