Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
5 out of 5 stars.
"We Are Voulhire: Matthew Tysz’s ‘A New Arrival under Great Skies’ touches the realms of the fantasy sub-genre and has a certain mystique. The protagonist of the story is Galen Bray, a young man who fled the ruins of his homeland to receive the legacy of a forge from his uncle in the city of Magnum Caelum located in the country of Voulhire. On arrival, Galen has the first encounter with Rowan who is his uncle’s executor, and shows him the ropes of his environment. Voulhire is a world in which magic is raveled through the mundane realities of human existence, making it exciting and mysterious. It is the story of a personal metamorphosis from the great warfare of the Lands of the Princes to a new ground filled with opportunities as well as challenges. Having the main character narrative combined with the third person limited, allows readers to have a clear vision of the politics and social hierarchy in Voulhire. The guiding characters are Judge Eldus, who has the vision of restoring the town of Hillport to its former glory, and the evil and conniving mage, Meldorath, who seems to still be lurking in the background having been thought to be killed. Matthew Tysz creates an outstanding setting and employs diverse plot twists that make readers accountable for their actions, and provide them with a meaningful and profound finale. "We Are Voulhire: Thus, “A New Arrival under Great Skies” is a compulsory read for fans and lovers of the fantasy genre – it will make the reader dive deep into the game’s atmosphere. Another strength is that the personal stories associated with depression are discussed alongside societal problems.
The detailed portrayal of the socio-political system of Voulhire and the appearance of threats the opposition groups like the Riva Rohavi enhances the complexity of the story. In my opinion, hope, power, and resilience are not only themes that are well-developed but also compel the reader to get involved and feel invested, making the situation seem genuine.
In addition to that, the creation of the world as depicted in We Are Voulhire is very well done. Tysz’s dedication to realism makes Voulhire come to life in manners both big and small; from geography to customs. Finally, the various plot lines make the book unpredictable with twists that set readers from edge to edge until the final part which is profound and thought-provoking for a sequel.
While "We Are Voulhire: “A New Arrival under Great Skies” is a vibrant and mysterious fantasy, however, it has a large number of characters and intricate systems and rules, which could be slightly confusing to some readers during the first chapters. Moreover, the elaborate descriptions of characters and complex storylines would make it rather challenging to read for those who enjoy simple plots based on incidents that occur in succession. Nevertheless, these aspects do not hinder the book from being a 5-star read at all, which it truly deserves.
The book editing and writing of the book is excellent. This is why the overall book deserves a 5-star rating.
In conclusion, "We Are Voulhire: Thus, “A New Arrival under Great Skies “is an intriguing and well-written story that can be expected even more in the next parts of the book. Tysz has always been exceptional in developing a story and elaborating on a very interesting and creative fantasy world, so this really should not be missed by any fan of the genre.
