Awakening… is an enlightening non-fiction work authored by Jin Lan Cera. The book chronicles the author's journey of inner awakening amidst challenging times. It delves into a personal interpretation of the Law of Attraction while traversing the paths of Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, and a broader sense of spirituality.

The narrative takes us through the author's life experiences, from being raised in an atheist society during the Cultural Revolution to her struggles with faith and spirituality. She shares her familiarity with Christianity and Buddhism and admits her inability to grasp their essence. She candidly shares her hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic and the emotional turmoil surrounding the period of her father's illness, hospitalization, and passing. His passing marked a transformative period for her. That is when she stumbled upon online material that challenged her scientific beliefs and transformed her perceptions of ancient religious practices. Her transformation from a staunch atheist to someone who finds meaning in spirituality is relatable, reminding us that such paths often reveal themselves during our lowest moments.

While the author reflects upon her experience with Christianity, the book puts faith in the traditional Chinese method of meditation called Qi Gong and Buddhism. She finally blends it all in with the principles of the Law of Attraction and supports it with documentable scientific evidence.

The appealing factor is that the structure adopted helps provide perspective and is not imposing. One of the standout features of this book is the inclusion of compelling scientific insights that substantiate the author's conclusions. Learning about Ms. Sun Chu Lin, Mr. Xia Hong Min, and the young girl named Maie Takahashi made it more interesting. Providing photographic evidence and direct links to online sources on the same page made it convenient for me to verify her claims. Despite encountering a few inaccessible links and non-English sources, the availability of these resources enriched my reading experience. It encouraged me to delve deeper into the topics discussed and explore related material.

While reading, I did encounter errors that warranted a reduction of a star. I humbly suggest a re-edit to enhance the reading experience. Considering the uniqueness of this self-help book and no other negative aspects to highlight, I rate this book four out of five stars. I recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining an alternate view that merges science and spiritual experiences.

Mixing science with spirituality is something I don't like. But I liked the way you explained the details of the book. Well written review Seetha

It is true that enlightenment often happens during our lowest moments. I am a Christian, but I am interested in most of the major religions. I believe that this book could hold my interest. I am curious about what this book says about the law of attraction. It is unfortunate that the author did not successfully edit this book. Grammar errors bother me while I am reading.

Hi Gerry,

As a practicing Hindu, I too am interested in understanding other religions.  I believe the end goal of all faiths is inner peace and joy. Somewhere, the essence is lost in human selfish interpretations and one-upmanship.
In this book, although she does not quite see herself continuing on the path of Christianity, she does not put it down or say anything offensive in any way.
Regarding your query about her understanding of the law of attraction, she suggests aligning ourselves with positive thoughts and actions. She cites research work that demonstrates the power of our thoughts.
Thank you for taking the time to read and share your thoughts and queries.

I’m more inclined towards science, but the point you made about how paths often reveal themselves during our lowest moments really struck a chord with me. I’ve found myself wondering about meaning and purpose as well. Now I’m curious to see what this book has to offer. Thanks for the insightful review!
