Review of NICO
Nico, the charming cockatoo, is truly a natural performer. While at home, he enjoys entertaining Kim and her friends with his tricks and clever mimicry. When Kim is away at school, Nico spends his time either observing other birds or peacefully resting. He patiently awaits her return. However, the summer holidays bring a change in the routine. Kim accompanies her mother to their family-owned flower shop, which keeps her away from home for extended periods, leaving Nico lonely and sad.
Recognizing Nico's distress, Kim and her mother take him along. Being surrounded by a larger audience brings joy back into Nico's life. However, an unexpected turn of events results in Nico and Kim becoming separated. To find out whether Nico and Kim reunite, one must delve into the heartwarming pages of the book Nico, beautifully crafted by Marlene Rattigan and vividly illustrated by Sergio Drumond.
Nico is a touching tale about the deep bond between children and their animal companions. The author skillfully intertwines themes of pet ownership and responsibility, emphasizing the mutual need for companionship and ensuring that our beloved pets are not left alone for extended periods.
The expressive, eye-catching, and brightly colored illustrations complement the author's beautiful narrative, ensuring the story maintains a firm grip on the reader's attention. The book has delightful and lighthearted moments that further improve the reader's experience.
This book presents an invaluable opportunity for parents and children to bond over learning essential values. The conversational and simple vocabulary encourages reading among slightly older kids as well. I appreciate the author's decision to include interesting factual information about the breed in context, making it a wholesome read. It will tickle their little minds and fuel their curiosity for more knowledge.
While reading the book, I did not encounter any errors. The editing is commendable. With engaging illustrations and a compelling storyline, Nico assures a value-based, educational, and entertaining book. With no negative comments about the book, I rate it a well-deserved five out of five stars. I highly recommend it for children under eight, especially those who share their homes with pets, and for school libraries. The storyline serves as an exceptional tool for initiating conversations about adapting to change, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and fostering empathy toward all living beings.
