Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book by Kalliope Barlis is a concise and practical guide for improving your golf game. What sets it apart is its application of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), which helped the author become a pro golfer in just two years.

The book is divided into three main sections. Part One, “Using Your Brain,” explores the power of your mind in playing golf. The NLP principle is that everything starts with your thoughts. By altering your thought patterns, you can change your feelings. While this technique can enhance any area of your life, in the context of golf, the book provides specific steps for pre-shot preparation. For example, you'll learn how to visualize your target, feel the body motion when aiming, and hear the sound of the sweet spot when the clubface strikes the ball.

Part Two focuses on practice, both on the range and at home. It emphasizes the quality of each shot over quantity and covers specific skills like aiming, alignment, and handling various lies—sidehill, uphill, and downhill. The book includes numerous exercises to help you develop these skills.

Part Three outlines strategies for when you start playing after you’ve learned the mind techniques in Part One and developed the necessary skills in Part Two. It helps readers understand the complete picture of what to consider in order to get the ball into the hole, including approach angles, wind conditions, and hazards.

To make it even better, the book includes illustrations at the end to clarify the main practices. I absolutely love this book. The NLP explanations are clear and easy to understand. It tells you exactly what to do to improve your game, step by step. And the book’s value goes beyond just golf. It encourages you to focus on what you’re doing right instead of what’s wrong. As someone who constantly looks for errors, this new perspective has really refreshed my thinking.

As a result, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s short but packed with valuable information, and the editing is flawless. I have no criticisms and believe it’s a must-have for any golfer’s bag as a source of practice and inspiration.
