[Following is a volunteer review of "The Middle Reaches (Episodes 1-8)" by L. Andrew Cooper.]
Have you seen those Hollywood horror movies where there is a different dimension, and it is always children who discover it first? Well, this book follows a similar narrative. There is a place different from our world, and it is called the middle reaches. Six high school children go into the middle reaches, but only five come out, and they do not know what happened to one of them. Sheldon Vere has been missing for ten years, and now the group of five adults has returned home for a reunion. During their reunion, they all shared their mysterious dreams. They decide to go back into the strange dimension to find Sheldon or at least understand what happened to him. Join these adults in The Middle Reaches (Episodes 1–8) by L. Andrew Cooper as they experience horror and gore firsthand.
I found enough positive aspects in this book. The author incorporates the right amount of suspense, making the book thrilling to read through. The mystery behind Sheldon's disappearance gave me something to hope for. I also like how the author shares the spotlight among all five friends by switching perspectives. This gives the story a different arc and enables the reader to tell what all five characters are thinking. This is the first book I'm reading on Kindle Vella. I must confess, I like its interactive nature, the way you can like an episode when you are done, and also that you can use your token to purchase the episodes rather than real money.
I found nothing disconcerting about this book. Its whole narrative appeals to me, and there isn't anything that I'd like to change about the book. The title is on point, as is the cover of the book. I found no errors in the book, and it has been perfectly edited. Such attention to detail deserves praise, so I commend Andrews for it.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for its exceptional storytelling and its right incorporation of suspense. I recommend it to fans of horror fiction.
