Title: The Emotional Alchemy of Healing
Author: Rachel Marie Rabatin

This is a warm and easy-to-read self-help book. Rachel Marie Rabatin explains that the phrase ‘Emotional Alchemist’ serves as a guide to emotional healing. She has been on her own emotional rollercoaster, with breakups and grief, and through this, she gives the reader a guide on how to cope and overcome mental and spiritual darkness.

Yes, some of her advice, such as listening to music or cutting negative ties, is obvious, yet sometimes, in the throes of emotion, it isn't easy to think clearly. Her writing will help soften the blow.

There are a multitude of points, such as being yourself, letting go of negative people and how to deal with the unexpected 'waves' of grief. I loved her piece regarding crying to let it all out, with the Charlotte Brontë quote:

"Crying does not indicate that you are weak. Since birth, it has always been a sign that you are alive."

It was interesting that she was given the drug Ketamine as an anti-depressant. Not being an expert in the world of pharmaceuticals, I have only heard negative things about it. I have learnt something interesting here.

I also love that the book doesn't take the reader into diagrams, statistics, and tables but focuses on gentle, persuasive prose with no frills. It is warm and personable.

There was a nice piece about making your bed. Admiral McRaven said:

"And if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made..... and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better."

Overall, it was a good book, which I will award five out of five stars. It would be specifically helpful for people grieving or going through a bad time in their lives. The editing was excellent, and I enjoyed her advice. I found nothing to dislike about it.
