“Entanglement: Quantum and Otherwise” by John K. Danenbarger is a compelling literary crime fiction novel. The book starts with the narration of Geena in present-day 2044, where she receives a letter from Joe informing her about her father’s demise. Joe also entrusts the duty of informing this news to her brother Davis, who is currently in Norway and whom she believes is a murderer. She feels devastated and lonely. The later chapters take us to the past, where the story of Geena’s parents, Beth and Kevin, and other characters like Davis, Joe, and his partner Martin are shared. What secrets lie in Geena’s family history that connect these diverse characters?

The book is written in such a way that each chapter is dedicated to different characters and is narrated from a third-person point of view. At the beginning of the book, I was very confused because it had many characters. I ended up writing down each character and their connections to others. I always struggle with understanding the concept when many characters are involved. In this book, it turned out useful to write it down because later I found that the characters are entangled and connected in intricate ways. And another confusing factor I found was the timeline. The author had provided clear-cut details on timelines in each chapter, even though I had to re-read it to understand the concept. It took me some time to differentiate between the past and the present. But I am not complaining; the book was enjoyable, despite the challenges.

Towards the end, I got a clear-cut picture of the whole story, and I must say it was marvelous. The author provided detailed background on the characters. Each character had their own unique history and secrets to share. The twist and suspense kept me engaged from the second part to the end. The book masterfully intertwines different timelines and perspectives, keeping readers guessing about the true connections and motives of each character.

The book contains themes of violence, murder, explicit sexual content, and a string of non-borderline profanity, so reader discretion is advised. As for the editing part, the book is professionally edited; I couldn’t find any mistakes. With all that being said, I rate this book 5 out of 5. There’s nothing I dislike about this book. The challenges I mentioned earlier didn’t bother me enough to reduce the stars. The book was a masterpiece. But I would suggest that you read it carefully to understand the complex connections and character details.

I understand what you mean when you have difficulty keeping track of all of the different characters as they are developed in the story. I usually experience the same feeling as you. But once the characters are developed and the plot is rolling, I always appreciate and enjoy knowing the characters. Your review has me feeling that this is a book I would like to spend time with. Great review!

I've read a few reviews of this book and haven't been sure I want to read it. Your review has confirmed for me now that I would like it, and I'm going to follow your lead and draw the character tree as I go so I stay on top of the many characters. Thank you.

I too get confused if several characters are introduced in one go, however, I am much too lazy to write down the characters and their timelines. The book sounds like it is intricately woven together and makes a good read. Thank youf or your review!

It seems that the author succeeded in applying the name of his book through his characters. Keeping track of many characters and events can sometimes be exhausting, so your effort in linking things together and your honest opinion must be appreciated. Great review Anu!

It sounds like a challenging read. Having too many characters might lose my interest in this book. It was wise of you to write down the characters.
Thanks for the review.

I enjoy reading stories where the perspectives of multiple characters are shared, but I realize how the changing perspective paired with the changing timeline could make this story a bit difficult to follow without taking notes. Thanks for a well-written and informative review!

Your review makes this book sound like a complex and rewarding read! The intricate connections between characters and the intertwining timelines seem like they create a rich and layered narrative. While the many characters and shifting timelines might be challenging, it sounds like the payoff is well worth the effort. I’m intrigued by the suspense and the deep character exploration you’ve described, and I’m excited to dive in and see how it all unfolds.

The title of the book kind of confuses me and thus I never picked it up. To me, it doesn't quite reflects on its genre. However, your positive review and perfect rating give me the confidence to give this book a try. I love books with suspense and deep characters. Thank you for sharing this beautiful review.
