[Following is a volunteer review of "Entanglement - Quantum and Otherwise" by John K Danenbarger.]
“Entanglement: Quantum and Otherwise” by John K. Danenbarger is a compelling literary crime fiction novel. The book starts with the narration of Geena in present-day 2044, where she receives a letter from Joe informing her about her father’s demise. Joe also entrusts the duty of informing this news to her brother Davis, who is currently in Norway and whom she believes is a murderer. She feels devastated and lonely. The later chapters take us to the past, where the story of Geena’s parents, Beth and Kevin, and other characters like Davis, Joe, and his partner Martin are shared. What secrets lie in Geena’s family history that connect these diverse characters?
The book is written in such a way that each chapter is dedicated to different characters and is narrated from a third-person point of view. At the beginning of the book, I was very confused because it had many characters. I ended up writing down each character and their connections to others. I always struggle with understanding the concept when many characters are involved. In this book, it turned out useful to write it down because later I found that the characters are entangled and connected in intricate ways. And another confusing factor I found was the timeline. The author had provided clear-cut details on timelines in each chapter, even though I had to re-read it to understand the concept. It took me some time to differentiate between the past and the present. But I am not complaining; the book was enjoyable, despite the challenges.
Towards the end, I got a clear-cut picture of the whole story, and I must say it was marvelous. The author provided detailed background on the characters. Each character had their own unique history and secrets to share. The twist and suspense kept me engaged from the second part to the end. The book masterfully intertwines different timelines and perspectives, keeping readers guessing about the true connections and motives of each character.
The book contains themes of violence, murder, explicit sexual content, and a string of non-borderline profanity, so reader discretion is advised. As for the editing part, the book is professionally edited; I couldn’t find any mistakes. With all that being said, I rate this book 5 out of 5. There’s nothing I dislike about this book. The challenges I mentioned earlier didn’t bother me enough to reduce the stars. The book was a masterpiece. But I would suggest that you read it carefully to understand the complex connections and character details.
