[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is the tale of four men and their yearly adventures. Each year, they plan a trip that involves danger and physical exertion that showcases what it means to be a man. They tackled places such as New Zealand, Fiji, and Peru. Through these yearly Man Missions, they can escape from their lives for a few short days and get a nice dose of adrenaline. Crazy things seemed to happen on these trips, such as having to finish the first trip in the back of a drug dealer's truck. However, these trips do not stop problems at home from following them. As tension from reality gets to them, will the Man Missions continue, or will they buckle under the pressure of being middle-aged men?
As the narrative unfolded, I found immense satisfaction in observing the gradual evolution of each man. The inexorable passage of time etched lines on their faces, while some embraced the joys and responsibilities of marriage and fatherhood. Life, in its unpredictable dance, grew more intricate and chaotic for these friends. Before embarking on any daring escapade, they convened the “Wives Committee,” seeking spousal approval—a poignant reminder that even the boldest adventurers are tethered to reality. Despite their lack of formal training, they clung to an unwavering belief in their invincibility.
After each adventure, the book offers a concise summary that includes details like travel distance, injuries, and transportation methods. It’s a thoughtful way to encapsulate their journey.
Although I noticed a few errors, it didn't take away from the joy I derived from reading it. However, it does include substantial profanity, so readers sensitive to language should be aware. It’s best suited for an adult audience.
I wholeheartedly grant this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a captivating read, blending humor, sadness, and the realities of aging. Both men and women can relate to its themes. I recommend it to fans of adventure intertwined with real-life challenges. Personally, I found it hard to set down—an incredible literary journey!
