We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz takes the reader to a world of fantasy where magic and technology blend with evil lurking in the background, ready to unravel. In this fantasy world of Voulhire, the shades of gray are as dark and gray as they can get. Matthew Tysz masterfully combines the elements of a fantasy adventure and self-discovery, making the book as interesting as it is engaging.

The story revolves around Galen, a war-scarred man who goes to Voulhire to claim his great-uncle’s inheritance. As Galen starts his new life, he comes across Rowan, who is his great-uncle’s executor, to guide him in his new world. The tale also introduces a nobleman, Eldus Alderman, a man sent by the king to revive the unprosperous town of Hillport, which is under the dominance of the dark mage Meldorath Dalehei. With each twist and turn, the story builds anticipation for what’s next, making it clear that this is just the beginning of a series. Galen’s story, along with Rowan’s mysterious past and Lord Eldus’s tribulations, got me hooked.

In my opinion, “We Are Voulhire” is a compelling storyline. The nature of Tysz’s writing is entertaining and intense, with elements of comedy and tragedy presented. His writing paints a clear picture of Voulhire, the magical beings, and the depth of the people inhabiting the city. Perhaps the main strength of the book is the way Tysz is able to mix comedy with high stakes. That is why the pacing is well maintained; each chapter moves the story forward, but at the same time, the readers can connect with the characters. With lots of characters in the plot lines, one could sometimes get lost; however, Tysz does a good job at making each addition valuable and enriching the story. The presentation of the book is good, and there aren’t any errors to distract readers.

In conclusion, "We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies" is a gripping tale that draws one into the world of magic, friendship, and the ties that bind people. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars for the intriguing plot and fantastic, colorful world. As the first book in a series, it provides a good start and gives a glimpse of what to expect in the other books. I recommend it to all epic fantasy lovers and anyone who enjoys a well-thought-out and well-created world. Immerse yourself in the wonders of Voulhire and let yourself be swept away by this spellbinding tale—I promise you won’t regret it!
