Review of Quest: Finding Freddie

[Following is a volunteer review of "Quest: Finding Freddie" by Thomas Richard Spradlin.]
Thomas Richard Spradlin's "Quest: Finding Freddie" is a riveting mystery thriller with well-mastered suspense showing 1976 Nigeria as an unraveled societal structure, and it’s all based on factual events. This book narrates the chilling efforts of Spradlin in searching for his client, Frederick David Nachman (Freddie), who disappeared mysteriously and into the unknown while in Lagos for business.
It begins setting its scene in Nigeria, still in shock from the recent military coup and the growing tensions from the Christian community. The book paints itself in rather risky territory as it progresses with Spradlin discovering the truth behind the disappearance of his client Freddie. The author employs features in narrative writing such as the use of descriptive words accompanied by the feeling of some sort of racing against time, hence making the readers glued to their seats.
From Spradlin’s experience living in Nigeria in 1976, one can get hooked. His trends in the portrayal of cultural features, such as the use of Pidgin English in the book, are praiseworthy. The author has depicted the period rather vividly to allow the reader to have a first-hand experience of the period.
The period described and the tenacity of the author in writing the book are possibly among the best examples one can come across; however, the large numbers of characters that are introduced at different junctures reasonably make the reader rather haywire in different instances because of the inability to remember all these characters and their roles in the book. Despite pointing out this flaw, I had a really lovely experience that wasn't impacted by the flaw. Therefore, I'd gladly rate this book a perfect five stars.
"Quest: Finding Freddie" should be on the reading list of any avid follower of true crime stories, history, and conspiracies. The book is a work of art that keeps the readers on the edge of their seats, and they always wait for the next page.
