I thought I knew what it means to be in risky situations until I read the book Appetite for Risk by Robert R. Abbott, and there is no facial expression that can explain how I feel after everything I have read about the author's life. Another shocking thing is that they are not scenes from a movie but real-life occurrences. Is it just sheer luck, or did the author sign a deal with the Grim Reaper not to come for him until he was ready to actually die? He didn't just survive an accident while skydiving; he also fought with a cobra, swam with the sharks, and even nearly drowned.

There is one thing I kept thanking God for as I read some parts of this book, and that is that the war times are over and that there is peace in most countries around the world. The author has witnessed many inhuman activities, mostly in Nigeria, and I was shocked by the violence and death he witnessed. I am amazed by his bravery too, and I view him as a wise old man who has seen every evil thing that could happen under the sun and the moon.

I was impressed by how detailed the author explained some of the near-death experience he had been through. An example is his skydiving accident. He described everything from the time he jumped out of the plan, how the parachute split, causing a Mae West, and how he hit the ground. His attention to detail and memory is remarkable. If I were in his shoes, I would have panicked the whole time, and everything would have been a complete blur.

I couldn't find anything to dislike about this book, and for this reason, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It seems to have been well edited, since I encountered no errors while reading it. I recommend this book to anyone interested in sophisticated memoirs.
