[Following is a volunteer review of "In the Heart of the Linden Wood" by Ekta R. Garg.]
Title: In the Heart of the Linden Wood
Author: Ekta R Garg
Embarking on this book was as effortless as stepping into a fairytale. It immediately drew me in, much like a child captivated by a magical story. The narrative begins with the soon-to-be king, Vincent, and his feigned love for the protagonist, the 'Keeper of the Linden Wood.' His reign turns cruel, but redemption comes in the form of his son, Christopher, a kind and just ruler who ascends to the throne upon his father's demise.
The story unfolds at a gentle pace, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the world of Linden. King Christopher's heartbreak and Geraldine's unjust treatment are revealed, adding depth to the narrative. The plot may be slow to gather speed, but this deliberate pacing is part of its charm. The country of Linden, ruled by the royal family and their able councillors, is not without its share of unrest. The reader is invited to journey further into this intriguing world.
The tone takes us up and down with happiness and sadness, all very well described. The language is beautifully fluid, with absolutely no grammatical mistakes. Although, as I've said, the book was slow to move on from the initial shock, the plot thickened smoothly and was an intriguing story. I found it all magical and old-fashioned, and it reminded me of the TV series 'Game of Thrones'. I loved the title 'In the Heart of the Linden Wood'; it has an eerie and lovely feel, and I hope this is the beginning of a series.
The cover illustration is bright and eye-catching and perfectly suits the story.
If you have a few hours to spare, this is an immersive way to spend it. It can take the reader into another world and has a feeling of nostalgia. I found nothing to dislike and thoroughly enjoyed it. I will award five out of five stars. A readership of older children onwards is recommended.
