Matthew Tysz's fantasy novel "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" is the first in the fantasy series. This gifted writer is driven by telling stories. He began telling stories at the age of eleven and has never grown tired of it. When asked what he wanted to achieve as a writer in one of his interviews, he said, "I write what I want to write and hope it's going to be loved by a lot of people for a long time." A truly genuine answer.

Galen Bray, the main character in "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies", boards a ship for the kingdom of Voulhire in the hopes of fleeing his dangerous former residence. Galen discovers upon reaching his location that he has inherited his recently deceased uncle's wealth. Galen comes expecting a brighter future, unaware of the sordid past that came before him. The question of whether General Meldorath is indeed dead sets the stage for the events that take place in the early portion of the novel. General Meldorath's character was masterfully developed for the reader, and the author skillfully depicted his dark pasts and present, as well as the potential ramifications should he turn out not to be dead. Throughout the entire novel, there is a gradual build-up and a lot of magic. My curiosity was piqued by the magic; who would possess these abilities? Which characters might possess this secret ability?

I thought it was fantastic that the author gave readers access to a map at the beginning of the book so they could view the regions where the tale is set. Since it lets the reader look up the locations in real life, I think it was my favorite feature the author added.

The book's slow pace was my only complaint, but it didn't stop me from reading it or suggesting it to others. I did discover that I wanted to read the book faster since I was curious about what would happen next. The author deserves praise for creating such anticipation!

This book's character development and lyrical prose are the result of the author's extensive thought process. I give this book a 5/5 and am looking forward to reading the remainder of the series.
